Diabetes Types
There are three different types of diabetes that are very common. Diabetes affects millions of people throughout the world. Lack of treatment or lack of proper timely treatment can make this a life-threatening disease. There are many people who don’t even know that they have the disease. For this reason, it is extremely important to talk to your physician about your family history and to get regular checkups. It is vital that you take care of your health and well-being.
When a pregnant woman approaches the last trimester of her pregnancy her doctor will be checking her for gestational diabetes. Generally, a woman who is diagnosed with this type of diabetes during pregnancy will see her blood glucose levels return to normal levels after she gives birth. However, the woman is still at risk for diabetes up to 10 years after the delivery, especially if she has a family history of diabetes. If a woman develops gestational diabetes during her pregnancy, her child will be at higher risk of becoming diabetic.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. The individual with Type 2 diabetes is not dependent on insulin to keep the disease in control. A common cause of this type of diabetes is excess weight gain. However, that’s not the only cause. Some people who develop Type 2 diabetes may be genetically predisposed to the disease. High blood pressure may the be cause in others. A regimen of exercise and physical activity can help treat this type of diabetes, as well as a proper diet and medication prescribed by your doctor. He can provide an exercise program to follow, in addition to a well thoughtout meal plan. It is important to follow your doctor’s adivce. Your health is very important and you don’t want to end up becoming insulin-dependent. This is not an uncommon occurance, but the chances are decreased if you listen to your doctor and take care of yourself.
Type 1 diabetes is the third type of diabetes. This kind of diabetes is usually caused by either genetics or diet. Individuals with this type of diabetes require insulin to treat it. The severity of this type of diabetes will determine how many shots of insulin you will need each and every day. As with the other types of diabetes it is absolutely essential that you engage in a regular exercise program and a proper nutritional diet. It is essential to get regular check ups with your doctor. It is important to know that a person with this type of diabetes, if left untreated, may experience a diabetic coma. Early diagnosis and treatement are essential because this type of diabetes is the most dangerous if not treated properly.
