Reduce Diabetes Risk

A recent study done in Finland and reported in the medical journal, Lancet, found a 43% reduction in the chance of getting diabetes by making some easy changes in lifestyle. The Finnish Diabetes Prevention Study followed 350 women and 172 men who were considered to be at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes.


The subjects underwent intense diet and exercise counseling. As a result of this counseling, the subjects had a reduced intake of total and of saturated fat. They also had an increased intake of fiber and showed an increase in physical activity. As a result of these changes, the subjects, overall, successfully lost weight.
